March Already!

Don't forget! Good Times is happening - as it will be every Friday from now to eternity - tomorrow, 5-8pm at the everlastingly hip 1181, where else but on 1181 Davie. Bring beautiful you and any you wish to chill out with. Invite your boss!

February having been what it has, I've been too busy to do much blogging. Stuff still happens though. Hang tight and I will be writing up something for those interested in knowing more about the intern rep position.

There have been two intern reps before me. By his words, Craig Henschel, the first, just hung around Council during meetings, and eventually created the position. I believe this was around 2000. He was "it" for two years. Then came Sean Ruthen, who also was in the position for two years. I have to say I was quite confused when I got in (by acclamation - no others ran for the position, and therefore no election). My form says it's a one-year position, but another sheet I received called "Intern Architect Rep Terms of Reference 2004-05" says it's a two year term. I enquired during the January Council meeting. Oh, it's one year! Is it renewable or non-renewable, I ask after the meeting? Renewable!

Well, good I got that cleared up at the... end of my term!

The position of Council is that, in order for the AIBC to appear open, diverse, and democratic, they wish for increased opportunities for interns to have the experience of being on Council. They would like that there be a new intern each year. There appeared to be less than little interest in having two interns on alternating terms on Council - though I could be wrong here.

My position is that I won't be running for the position, and as part of the group accept Council's decision on this. I think I've done a lot this past year, and I think that it actually would be good for a good new intern to come on board. However, I will return if no one runs by March 22nd. I think that I've done an enormous amount of legwork this past year specific to interns' relationship to the profession. I think it would be a bit of a waste, but then, maybe I could get some extra time off to do my exams this next year...
